PRE MATCH: MUFC vs Southampton

With less than 3 hours until kick off, I’ll be discussing my thoughts ahead of this crucial game

After a disappointing set of results last week, having taken home 1 point out of a possible 6, there’s no doubt we need to come away with the full 3 points tomorrow night. The only things holding us back: a discouraging home record this season, and motivation levels amongst the team. The defeat against Sheffield United mid-week seemed to have shifted the squad’s motivation levels, leading to a draw against Arsenal at the weekend – which, should’ve been ours to win.

Nevertheless, we must wipe the slate clean and go into this week ready to dominate in the games ahead. Starting with Southampton.

With Ole deeming the whole squad fully fit, here’s my predicted line-up for the game:

De Gea

Wan-Bissaka Bailly Maguire Shaw

Pogba Fred

Greenwood Fernandes Rashford

Cavani

Cavani should be a no-brainer when it comes to his position within the starting XI, especially after his ‘Fergie time’ magic the last time we faced Southampton, but having played the full 90 in the Arsenal game a question mark definitely lies above his name to start. Potentially the most important change in the starting line-up from the Arsenal game, I’d swap the centre back pairing to Bailly and Maguire to allow us to press higher up the pitch. In every game Bailly has started in this season he hasn’t failed to impress and is proving he has what is takes to succeed as a top-level CB in the league. I think he will be a vital player in tonight’s game and one that should not be missed out of the starting XI.

Score prediction: 2-1 Manchester United WIN.
